SIFER-U credentials have an identical set of specifications as SIFER-P, with the main difference being that they can be reprogrammed

in the field. By default, SIFER-U credentials are supplied pre-programmed with the global SIFER encryption key by

Inner Range and can be used with standard SIFER readers without the need for card or reader configuration. Although SIFER-U

credentials are supplied pre-programmed, the site code and encryption key can be reprogrammed in the field

using the SIFER card programming station. (Reprogramming SIFER-U card numbers is not recommended, as they are already unique).

After reprogramming SIFER-U credentials, SIFER readers must also be reconfigured to use

the same encryption key. To perform reader configuration, a "reader configuration card" must be created using the

SIFER card programming station. SIFER-U customisation is a process carried out by the installer, therefore the unique encryption key

must be stored and managed by the installer, which facilitates additional card batches in the future.

In the event of loss of the unique SIFER-U encryption key, it cannot be recovered.
